Virtual Festival

At a time when concerts and festivals had to pause, Wacken still happened - as the biggest virtual festival yet. Lots of concerts were streamed by MagentaMusik 360 to Viewers all around the world. Sabaton, Heaven Shall Burn, Kreator, Blind Guardian, In Extremo, Hämatom, and Beyond The Black performed on a spectacular XR stage. The Media Agency Veedel developed this concept for Live Nation and got us from Glare on board to help make this idea become reality - and what a reality it was.

XR Stage

The core of the show was the large LED stage with a cuved wall and a robust floor. It was used to create the background behind the bands and was seamlessly extended by a virtual world. This allowed the artists to see parts of their surroundings, giving them a far better feeling for the atmosphere compared to green screen technology.

Tracked Cameras

Tracked cameras provided by our friends from Trackmen and Egripment were used to capture the bands on stage and allow us to create the world in the correct perspective - both for the LEDs and the virtual stage extension that was later visible for the viewers.

Control

In addition to the real cameras and effects, we added virtual effects and camera flights to the world. In order to keep full control, we developed a custom control application that we operated on-site at the word of the Director. It also helped us to maintain and control the eight high performance workstations we provided to render the virtual world.

Lighting and Effects

Lights, Fire, Lightning, Lava floors, .. we created many virtual effects to make the Wacken stage come to live! Most of them were controlled by the same Light Control that also controlled the physical lights and effects. For this, we implemented an interface to let the GrandMA 2 communicate directly with our application.

Social Media

Having live concerts allowed to get fan feedback directly into the show. We implemented a connection to SendOnScreen that made it possible to integrate social media like twitter and instagram into the virtual world. As a very special fan integration, we also had viewers get into the show live via Zoom.
